이렇게 정길채 작가가 상징화된 기호들을 다루는 작업방식은 과거 작가의 사회적 관심이 사회 구조의 관념적인 부분을 표현하는 물질로서의 기표를 만들었던 것과 동일하게 작가적 실존적 경험을 소통하고자 하는 현재의 작업으로 이행하는 과정에서도 이미지로 축약된 기표를 생산하는데 있어서 독특한 조형언어의 가능성을 보여주고 있는데 그것은 추상적 화면구조와 구상적 형상의 혼합 그리고 이미지와 텍스트의 혼합과 같은 이질적 요소의 혼성에서 발생되는 다층적 시각적 효과와 같은 것들이다.

이것은 첫째 추상적 요소와 구상적 요소의 혼성적 화면이 갖는 복수적 해석가능성과 이미지와 문자라는 이중적 양상의 텍스트가 서로 교차된 혼성적 화면에서 발생되는 중층화된 의미층과 같은 것들이다. 이는 작가가 제시하는 상징적 기호들을 읽어가는데 있어서 다양한 상상의 단초를 제공하는 구조이자 장치인 것이다.

이와 같이 정길채 작가는 선과 색면이 교차하는 간결한 화면 위에 견고한 기호적 장치를 오버랩시키는 혼성적 구조를 착안하여 시각적인 미감과 함께 기호적 소통가능성을 모색하는 작업을 다양하게 시도하고 있으며 이와 함께 그가 관심을 갖고 지켜 봐왔던 현대사회의 일상적 삶의 모순적 상황들이라는 것은 하나의 증후(symptom)일 수 있기에 그가 상처를 입은 후에 육체와 정신이 균형을 이뤄가는 경험을 하였던 것처럼 현대 사회 속의 일상적 삶에 상징적 언어를 통한 균형과 치유를 위한 조형적 대화를 작업을 통해 시도하는 것으로 보인다.

작가는 1986~1992년에 중앙대학교와 대학원에서 조각을 전공했다. 이후 1995~2010년에 뉴욕에서 판화와 회화 작업을 하며 Ameses Cosma와 함께 다수의 공공예술 프로젝트에 참여하였다. 그 동안 뉴욕과 서울에서 세 번의 개인전과 다수의 아트페어 및 그룹전을 가졌다. 현재 서울에 거주하며 작업하고 있다.
studied sculpture at the college and graduate school of Chung-Ang University from 1986 to 1992. Printmaking and painting in New York during 1995 and 2010, he participated in a number of public art projects along with Ameses Cosma and had private exhibitions three times in New York and Seoul and was invited to various art fairs and group exhibitions. Currently, he continues his works in Seoul.
