화가 위명온(WI MYEONG ON) - I love scenery that makes me breathe comfortably

 

등꽃-향기

 

 

   

나는 숨쉬기 편안한 풍경이 좋다   

 

나는 뭉툭한 흙 고구마를 키워낸 황토색과 물상의 빛깔이 바래진 노을빛이 그리고 바삭거리는 겨울 숲의 낙엽 빛깔도 좋다. 흙 담에 뿌리를 내리고 나불나불 잔소리를 옹알대는 흰 풀꽃들이 가슴 미어지게 좋다. 슬쩍 시치미 떼고 불어 지나는 바람 한 줄마저 잡아넣을 수 있다면, 풀 잠자리 떼가 날아오르는 풍경 속에서 나 또한 스스로 풍경이 될 수 있다면 안심하고 또 안심하리라.

 

I love the color of the red clay that cultivates the stumpy sweet potatoes, the color of sunset that makes everything fade, and the color of forest leaves in winter. I love the fluttering white wild flowers rooted in earthen walls. If I could steal even a breath of the passing wind, or could blend in the scenery of a soaring swarm of dragonflies, I would be satisfied.

 

 

 

봄, 꽃등

 

 

유년의 뜰에 번지는 저녁 햇살처럼 낡고 익숙하여 숨쉬기 편안한 풍경이 무조건 좋다. 그래서 그림을 통해 인간 정신의 본연의 모습이나 격동하는 고뇌를 표현하기보다는 어느 가을 날 툇마루에 깍지 무릎 하고 앉아서 두고 온 고향 친구의 얼굴이라거나 고향의 포근함, 오래 된 기억의 사소한 한 조각이 문득 따뜻함으로 떠오르는 풍경을 붙들어두고 싶다.

 

I unconditionally love surroundings that make me breathe comfortably like the evening sunshine that spread through the yard when I was young. Thus, rather than expressing the mental aspects or anguish of human beings, in my pictures I would like to capture the warmth of my hometown, the faces of friends that I’ve left, and other trivial pieces of old memories that come to mind when I am sitting on toenmaru (a narrow wooden porch running along the outside of a room) on a fall day.

 

 

 

  겨울-시린 물

 

 

 

고향 언저리를 떠나지 못하여 거듭 다시 돌아와 머무는 것은 그 때문이다. 흙 한 뭉텅이 떨어져나간 담 아래 오롯한 분꽃 떨기 되어 피는 꿈을 더러 꾼다. 얼마 전부터 물상의 빛깔이 죄다 날아간 모노톤의 화면이 자꾸 눈앞에 삼삼하다. 색을 떼어낸 물상에 곁눈질을 시작한 지 오래, 이후 내 작업의 숙제다.

 

That is the reason I often return to my hometown. I sometimes dream of a four-o'clock flowering under an earthen wall from which a lump of ground has fallen off. Recently, monotone screens in which the colors of objects are lost emerge in front of my eyes. I have given side-glances to objects that have lost colors for a long time, and this is the theme of my future work.

Graduated from Chonnam National University and the Graduate School of Education at the same university. Conducted research at Aichi University of Education in Japan. Presently, President of Jangheung Youth Training Center and Jangheung Youth Counselling Support Center. △Solo Exhibitions = Talking in an undertone (Shimonoseki, Japan), New Art Fair Exhibition (Seoul, New Art Plaza Gallery) ?Group Exhibitions = Over 60 appearances including Korea, China and Japan Art Exhibition to celebrate Shanghai Expo (2010, Shanghai China).
