LEE DOO SEOP-Objects and Imaginary Space, and Wild Flowers Blooming through Them

대상과 심상 공간, 그 틈에 피어난 들꽃-화가 이두섭 

 

들꽃의 소박한 아름다움과 질긴 생명력을 담아온 이두섭 작가 작품은 현실공간과 심상공간이 한 화면에서 구축되어 새로운 일루전(illusion)을 형성하고 있다. 

The works of artist Doo-Seop Lee have captured the simple beauty and tenacious life force, and formed new illusions by creating a real space and an imaginary space on one canvas.

 

대상의 이미지들은 맑디맑은 하늘의 푸르름, 어스름한 강둑의 쓸쓸함, 황혼 무렵의 찬란한 고요, 하늘에 맞닿은 키 큰 소나무의 의젓함 등 다양한 표정을 지니고 있다. 

The imagLEE DOO SEOP-es of objects have various ｅxpressions including the clean blue sky, the loneliness of a river bank at dusk, the radiant silence at sunset, and the maturity of tall pine trees reaching up to the sky.

대상은 엷은 붓질로 매우 섬세하게 묘사되거나 여러 층의 붓질로 추상화되기도 하고, 프로타쥬(Frottago) 기법의 입체적 형상화 등 다채롭게 사용되었다. 투명한 아크릴 패널 위에 갖가지 색으로 형상화된 들꽃들은 경쟁하듯 제 각각의 존재를 다투며 수직으로 뻗어나가고 있다.  

Objects were very delicately expressed with light brushing, abstracted with multiple layers of brushing, or three-dimensional figuration of the Frottago technique. Wild flowers of various colors drawn on transparent acrylic panels are stretching vertically as if competing with one another for existence.

 

단색위주의 간결한 묘사와 대조적으로 화려한 색감으로 장식된 이 꽃들의 향연은 시적 이미지의 공간을 점령한 원초적 자연의 모습인 듯 강렬한 붓 터치로 화면의 분위기를 전환시키고 있다. 

The feast of these flowers decorated with fancy colors and contrasted with simple single-color depictions is like the appearance of basic nature that occupies the poetic imaginary space, and the atmosphere was changed with strong brush touches.

이러한 대조적 형상화로 인해 이 겹겹의 이미지 층은 초자연적, 무의식적 공간으로 안내하고 있다. 그의 작품들은 묘사와 은유적 표현으로 서정미에 발을 담근 채 회화의 본질에 대한 물음과 예술이라는 관념의 세계 속에서 자유로운 표현의 경지를 획득하려는 노력이다.  

With these contrasting figures, these image layers guide us to a supernatural, subconscious space. His works are an effort to question the essence of paintings while immersed in the lyrical beauty with depictions and metaphoric ｅxpressions and to achieve the pinnacle of free ｅxpressions in the ideal world of arts.
