빛나는 이성 그리고 삶의 성찰-서양화가 이영박 

 

 

이영박 작가는 그의 미아리 작업실 근처 슬레이트 지붕의 가옥들을 그린 작품으로 1993년 제12회 대한민국 미술대전 대상을 수상했다. 이후 5년이 지나서야 첫 개인전을 열만큼 그는 작업은 깊은 조형세계를 구현하고 있다. 

Artist Yeong-Bak Lee won the grand prize of the 12th Korean Art Contest in 1993 with a work that depicted the slate roof houses near his studio in Miari. His work has created a profound world of plastic arts, so much so that he held his first individual exhibition five years later.

 

2003년에서는 서울의 월곡동, 난곡, 경동시장, 청계천의 낮은 지붕들과 황혼이 지는 들녘이나 바닷가, 제주도와 을숙도의 갈대, 주남 철새도래지 등 여러 곳의 풍경을 담아냈으며 2005년 세 번째 개인전에서 ‘삶-내일을 기다리며’ 시리즈를 내놓았다.  

In 2003, he captured the landscapes of various places including the low roofs in Wolgok-dong, Nangok, Gyeongdong Market, and Cheonggyecheon in Seoul, fields and beaches at sunset, reeds in Jeju Island and Eulsuk Island, and a habitat for migratory birds in Junam. In his third individual exhibition in 2005, he presented the “Life – Waiting for Tomorrow” series.

화폭 표면에 굵게 지나간 물감 자국이 비가 내리는 풍경처럼, 바람이 세차게 부는 날씨처럼 마음에 깊은 파동으로 전달되는 그의 작품세계는 세상을 향한 무언의 메시지를 내포하고 있다. 

Like the raining scene or windy weather depicted by thick paint impressions on the canvas, his works deliver deep waves to the hearts of viewers and contain tacit messages to the world.

 

근작 ‘생명의 빛 장미 이야기’에서는 바람에 떠다니는 풍선처럼 비현실적인 공간을 부유하면서 우리로 하여금 환상의 즐거움을 맛보게 하는데 무언가 형언키 어려운 무거운 덩어리가 가슴에 들어와 앉는 듯한 뭉클함을 일으킨다. 

His recent work “Light of Life, Rose Story” allows us to taste the joy of fantasy like floating in an unrealistic space like balloons floating in air. It moves us in a way, like putting a heavy lump in our hearts which cannot be described.

그러하기에 문득문득 삶에 대한 성찰을 가져다준다. 때문에 그의 작품은 현실의 재현이 아니라 이성의 빛이 강렬하게 빛나고 있는 이상세계로 풀이된다. 

Such works give us opportunities to contemplate in our lives. Therefore, his works are not recreations of reality, but rather ｅxpressions of an ideal world in which the light of reason shines powerfully.

이영박 작가는 대한민국 미술대전 대상과 목우회 특선 3회와 제2회 한국 구상대제전 특별상을 수상했다. 또 대한민국 미술대전 및 목우회 심사위원을 역임했으며 상 갤러리 등 개인전을 가졌다. 

In addition to the grand prize of the Korea Art Contest, artist Yeong-Bak Lee won three special selection awards by Mokwoohoe, and the special selection award in the second Korea Grand Festival of Representational Fine Art. He worked as a judge in the Korea Art Contest and Mokwoohoe. He held individual exhibitions in Sang Gallery and other galleries.

 

작품 소장처는 한국은행, 조흥은행 본점, 한미은행, 문예진흥원, 사법연수원, 시흥시청, 국립현대미술관 미술은행, 서울시립미술관 등이다. 

His works are owned by Korea Bank, Main Office of Choheung Bank, Hanmi Bank, the Literary Promotion Center, Judicial Research & Training Institute, the Siheung City Hall, the Art Bank of National Museum of Contemporary Art, the Seoul Museum of Art, etc.
