A journey and the vestiges of memory

Closing my eyes I take a deep breath several times. Getting into the rhythm of the music from a distance, I lay my body and heart on the pale white canvas in a vacuum. Nothing. I hold a brush and let myself do whatever my heart tells me to do on the canvas like that for some time.

That is how my work begins. It begins with a story that does not have a plot, finding a form in a chaotic shape. Complex and confusing images formed out of subconsciousness are connected to my childhood play with imagination, and the vestiges of memory are fragmented to rise to the surface, becoming a subject/object along with memories of a journey. To me, still shy, art is a place where I and my inner self confront each other, and also a way to build a passage to a non-linguistic form of communication. It is expressed and shown on a small flat surface. I unravel the story, while giving it my all: moderation, passion, energy, and everything, concentrating my mind.

To me, my work brings me back to the innocence of childhood as in the lyric “a two-wheeled car, a four-wheeled bicycle, a flying vessel, a plane underwater....” I struggle in the visual ocean to bring up a place of communication and sympathy, where we can share a white Christmas in August, sunny sunflower fields in December, and a green and golden view in May and October, crossing the boundaries of time.

To me, a work is not something special. Everything that comes out of me is a tool for my work. I do my best to perceive objects as they are and to deliver the plain truth and common recognition to the viewers. Sometimes, the old residues of my childhood memories hit a barrier, but those traces faded and baffled in a panorama of time, sometimes, generate unexpected outcomes.

In this complex convoluted passage of time, I am walking at ease midway through my life journey, controlling my tempo and the pace of time. When the afterimages of my childhood are newly reborn, I find an excitement, and at the same time a solace in myself. Thus, another brand-new adventure begins. Through this exhibition, I'd like to have the courage to invite people and communicate with audiences.
