빛이 그린 그림, 시간이 만들어준 환영 

 

김기태는 사진을 직접 찍고, 현상하고, 캔버스에 인화하고, 그 위에 그림을 덧그린다. 그 과정에서 사진과 회화는 서로 구별되기보다는 하나의 결로 스며들고 삼투된다.  

Keetae kim shoots, developes, and prints on canvas and draws on it. In this process, painting and photography are getting together instead of being distinguished.

 

 

 

 

 

그가 프레임 속에 불러들인 피사체를 보면 도심이 아닌 한적한 시골풍경이며, 그마저도 사람을 찾아볼 수 없는 자연 풍경 그대로이다. 혹은 목책이나 묘지 그리고 허름한 촌락처럼 자연에로의 퇴화 과정이 상당할 정도로까지 진행되어져서 사실상 자연과 구별되지 않는 인공의 흔적들이다.  

Subjects that he brought in his frame are not urban scene but secluded countrysides. Moreover, it is a landscape itself with no people inside. Or it is about artificial traces that have been greatly degenerated to distinguishable wooden fence, grave yards, and ruined country towns.

 

 

 

 

 

화면에서 흔적은 이런 인공의 부산물만은 아니다. 사람 역시 그 자체로서보다는 오로지 과거와 흔적과 부재의 형태로서만 암시된다. 작가의 작업은 이처럼 존재 대신 부재를 향한다.  

In his pictures, the trace is not only these artificial structures but also people are a suggestive forms of the past, traces and absence. This artist’s work points to the absence instead of existence.

 

 

 

 

 

 

낡고 색 바랜 사진을 통해 보는 피사체는 아름답고 쓸쓸하고 슬프다. 그것이 과거시제 속에 편입된 것인 만큼 현재하지 않는 것, 부재하는 것, 없는 것이기 때문이다.  

The subjects in old and worn off photo is beautiful, lonely, and sad. Because of it doesn’t exist anymore.

 

 

 

 

 

김기태의 작업은 이처럼 사진과 회화의 경계를 허물고, 현실과 비현실의 차이를 넘나들며, 존재와 부재를 하나의 결로 직조해낸다. 잊혀진 것들, 시간의 저편으로 사라진 것들, 그 존재감이나 실체감이 희박한 것들, 아득하고 아련한 것들을 환기시켜주는 그 이미지들은 마치 비물질적 시간에다가 질료와 형태를 부여해준 것 같은, 비가시적 시간을 가시화한 것 같은 어떤 의외의 지점을 열어놓는다. 

Kee Tae Kim’s work weaves the existence and the absence into the one by deconstructing the boundary in between painting and photography, being frequent the reality and surreality. The image that reminds the things that forgotten, the things that disappeared, the things that puny existence and the things that hazy and dim opens a unexpected place.
