A dramatic moment right before the sky and the sea meet to be one body

 

 

That’s how the artist sets his camera up in front of the sea. He tries to find the site with the best view of the boundary and fixes his camera there. He waits until it gets dark. At last, when it’s dark everywhere, the clearly seen boundary is not visible in the darkness.

 

The easily distinctive borderline is finally not to be seen? Isn’t it the very boundary that the artist wished to take pictures of ? If so, it means that it is not the boundary clearly visible first but another one he wished to. What on earth is another boundary?

 

What’s the difference between them? Although they’re different, are they still boundaries? Or, something different from boundaries? It is said that it was not until when the boundary was not visible because of the darkness prevailing everywhere that the artist or possibly the camera eye could begin to see the boundary.

 

This is probably the very boundary that the artist has really wished to see and find. Again, is it the genuine boundary? Actually it’s not the boundary that met his eyes. The boundary, which reveals itself even in the darkness or rather just in the darkness, is really not the real one but its afterimage or after-shadow.

 

In other words, it’s a memory, a persistence, or a longing of the boundary. What perceives the boundary depends on our eyes and belongs to our senses, but it takes place after the afterimage of the boundary has been admitted into the edge of recognition beyond our senses.

 

In such a way, the artist wished to capture the dramatic moment of a boundary, a horizon, and a dimension when the sensational boundary and the ideal one, and the boundary of sense and the sense of boundary are opened and infiltrated into each other.

 

Actually, the photos of the artist show a boundary that is obscure, erased, about to be erased, about to disappear, or possibly goes deeper rather than a clean or a tangible one. He sets the boundary free, and shows a dramatic moment right before the sky and the sea meet to be one body.
