비의도적 기억의 시·공간 표현②
공간의 이중성은 하나의 화면을 이등분하여 서로 다른 이미지를 삽입시키며 극대화한다. 내용을 보면 한쪽 화면에는 실크 프린트의 불상과 앵무새, 또는 새장이나 꽃과 뱀 등이 화려한 색채 이미지로 등장하고 다른 면에는 흑백의 목판 산수화 등 단순 기법의 표현적 이미지가 나타난다. 이중적 공간표현은 데페이즈망의 복합적 구성과 같이 의식의 흐름이라는 비의도적 기억과 연결된다.
The duality is maximized when another image is inserted. While Buddha images, parrots, cages, flowers, and snakes appear in one scene, simple black-and-white landscapes appear in another. Her work’s dualistic presentation of space relatesto involuntary memoriesthe flow of consciousness.

이러한 이중 구조의 대립적 이미지는 서로 연관성을 갖기보다 독립된 모습으로 비춰진다. 그러나 다양한 이미지의 이중 구조를 통해 작가는 현실과 비현실의 사건을 동일한 이중 공간에 공존시키면서 내용을 종교적이며 철학적 해석이 가능하게 한다.
Such dualism and confrontation presents mutual independence rather than association. Through the dual structures of images she allows realistic and unrealistic incidents to coexist on the same plane, enabling religious, philosophical interpretation.

공간구조의 변화와 함께 근작에서 중요시 되는 것은 시간의 문제이다. 시간과 이등분된 공간 구조는 사물의 본질과 실존적 개념을 확인시킨다. 판화의 촉각성과 신체적 표현들, 그리고 자연과 인간, 즉 산수화와 인체 누드, 꽃과 뱀, 부처의 형상 등 구체적 이미지를 통해 잃어버린 시간을 되찾으려는 의식의 흐름을 작품 속에 나타내고 있다.
Her recent work emphasizes time, and change in the structure of space. Jo represents the true nature of objects and existence through time and dual spatial structures. She presents the flow of consciousness and recovery of lost time through tactility, physical ｅxpression, and images of nude bodies, flowers, snakes, and Buddha images.

개개의 독립된 형상은 서로 다른 시간 속에 존재하는 것들로 실존적이다. 이러한 존재는 비의도적 기억의 단초가 되면서 과거를 회상하는 연결고리가 만들어지는 것이다. 변화되는 시공간 속의 이미지 작업이 지나간 시간의 기억과 기록이지만 이는 결코 잃어버린 시간이 아니라, 되찾은 시간으로 해석되고 있다.
Each independent form is existential, existing in a different time. This being becomes a thread to voluntary memories, and a link to the past. Her images within every-changing space-time are memories and records of the past, interpreted as retrieved time.
