도시의 소통은 역설적으로 고요하지만 수다스럽다. 그리고 언제나 분주하고 빠르다. 생각해 보면, 타인이지만 그 관계는 결국 하나로 연결되는 아이러니 속이 우리의 도시가 아닐까. 전선에서 사람과 사람 그리고 사회와 관계 맺기의 따뜻한 체온을 교류하고 소통하는 작품세계를 발견해 내는 정미정 작가는 기억의 파편들을 꺼내어 그것들을 색을 통해 낯선 것으로 바꾼다.
Communication in a city is paradoxically silent, yet talkative. Moreover, it is always busy and fast. If you think about it, isn’t it our city where people are strangers but are also connected to one in the end? Artist Mi-Jung Jung, who discovers in cables her world of art that communicates with people and interchanges a warm body temperature through social relationships, draws out the fragments of memory and changes them into unfamiliar things through colors.

작가에게서 물감은 세상을 재구성해내는 도구라는 점에서 어떻게 일상의 파편이 작가의 색깔로 재구성되는지의‘보기’라고 할 만한데 그녀의 색채는 끌림이 강하게 전해져 온다.
For artists, paints are the tools of recreating the world, so they are ‘examples’ of the colors of an artist that recreates the fragments of life. Her colors have extraordinarily strong attraction.

그녀는“어린 시절 찬바람 불던 크리스마스 밤, 산타크로스 선물을 기다리며 흑백 티브이를 보다 잠이 들었었다. 부푼 기대와 방안의 아늑한 온기 그리고 흘러나오는 노래와 춤의 축제화면은 유년시절 잊을 수 없는 행복의 기억이다. 전선을 통해 전해오는 그 아름답고도 화려한 세상의 알림은 그 후로도 오래 동안 내 가슴에서 식지 않는 기억으로 남아있다”고 전했다.
She said, “When I was young, on a cold Christmas Eve, I was watching the black-and-white TV as I waited for Santa Claus. I fell asleep. My buoyant expectations, the warmth of the room, and the festival of singing and dancing on the TV are unforgettable happy memories of my childhood. The beautiful and colorful display of the world transmitted through the cables has remained in my heart as a warm memory for a long time.”

가끔 하늘을 보며 낭만을 생각해 보거나 떠다니는 구름에 기억의 조각을 꺼내 실어 보내며 미소 짓던 기억들은 감정과 만나 또 다른 감각의 세계를 만들어 낸다. 그 세계는 현실과 닮은, 나아가 그것들을 추억하며 또 다른 세계로 통하는 출입문이기도 하다.
Sometimes her memories of watching the sky and thinking of romance or fragments of memories that are carried on floating clouds bring a smile to her face and allow her to create a world of different senses. This world resembles the real world; it is also a door to memories and other worlds.
◆서양화가 정미정(Mi-Jung Jung)
프랑스 국립 헨느2대학원(UNIVERCITE DE RENNES II)을 졸업했고 귀국해 왕성하게 작업하고 있다. 대안공간 팀 프리뷰(서울)에서 개인전을 가졌고 서울오픈아트페어(코엑스·서울), Mandarin Oriental Hotel(홍콩) 등 다수의 아트페어에 참여했다.
She graduated from the UNIVERCITE DE RENNES II in France and has been actively working since returning to Korea. She held a private exhibition at the Alternative Space Team Preview (Seoul) and has participated in many art fairs, including the Seoul Open Art Fair (COEX, Seoul) and the art fair at Mandarin Oriental Hotel (Hong Kong).
