Creation and Extinction
금강경에 “무릇 있는 바의 상은 모두 허망하니 만약 모든 상이 상 아닌 줄을 알면 곧 여래를 보게 되리라.”는 말이 있다. 모든 존재는 변화한다. 변화하지 않는 고정된 실체는 없다. 그러므로 시시각각 생멸하는 일체가 곧 “나”이다.
There a phrase in The Diamond Sutra: “All conditioned phenomena
are in vain, and if all image is not the image you will soon see the Buddha.” Every existence changes. There is no stationary reality. Therefore, a single body hourly born and died is “me”
혼돈의 세계에 던져진 붓 터치의 솟음에서 생명의 온기를 느끼고, 그 획 하나하나에서 꿈틀대는 기운이 형상을 만든다. 이렇게 안과 밖을 경계 지은 선은 하나의 문자로 탄생하고 그 문자는 스스로 운명에 젖어들면서 우리를 묶고 풀어준다.
I feel the warmth of life in a rising brush touching that is thrown away to a confused world, and the energy wriggling in every stroke makes figure. Like this, the borderline between the inside and outside is born as a letter, and the letter, drowned in its own destiny, ties and unties us.

홍승표의 문자는 영적인 상징으로 태어나고 결합과 해체를 통해 시간의 역사를 의미체계로 각인한다. 존재의 문제를 쉼 없이 반복하며 생멸하는 흔적의 여운은 시냇물 흐르는 소리로 자연과 합일하면서 나무나 돌로 바뀌고 그 정점에 정신이 자리한다. 이렇게 하나 된 마음이 자연의 완숙된 흐름으로 화면에 채워질 때 소멸이라는 탄생의 실체를 깨닫게 된다.
Hong Seung Pyo's letter is born as a spiritual symbol, with the history of time engraved as a meaning system via its assembling and dissembling. An trace aftereffect born and died in a continuous repetition of existence issue works together with nature in a stream sound into a tree or stone, and its spirit is in the climax. When this united mind is filled on a screen by mature flow of nature, the reality of extinction born is awakened.

상형과 뜻글자의 형태적 특징으로 시작된 자. 획들의 엮임은 차츰 의미나 뜻을 버리고 온전한 자신만의 우주로 만들어지는데, 이는 홍승표 자신이 말한 영적 기(氣)의 또 다른 모습이다. 판넬 위에 한지를 서너 겹 붙이고 쓰고 지워낸 그곳에 변하지 않는 고정된 실체는 있을 수 없음을 알면서도 박제화 하려는 그 마음에서 존재에 대한 실체에 접근하려는 작가의 피나는 고뇌를 보게 된다. 이점이 눈 위 얼음판위에 써내려간 흑백의 여운이 산허리를 감싸고 하늘을 향한 절규이며 동시에 씻김의 제의라 할 것이다.
The letter started writing by morphological characteristics of pictograph and of ideograph. The stroke weaved gradually throws away the meaning or significance of introduction and in its own universe, which is the another aspect of spiritual energy told by Hong Seung Pyo. He knows that there is no stationary reality where he stuck a triple Korea paper on a panel, written and erased, but his mind trying to stuff it shows the artist's painful agony to access to the reality of existence. This would be a celestial scream of the black-and-white aftereffect written down on a snow-icy ground wrapping a mountainside, and at the same time the wearing-off proposal.
홍승표는 이렇듯 자신의 몸짓으로 생성과 소멸의 거역할 수 없는 자연의 질서를 몸소 받들고 있음을 암시한다. 그의 적과 먹의 일관된 화면에서 시시각각 생멸하는 일체가 곧 “나”임을 드러내고 있다.
Like this, Hong Seung Pyo suggests that he respects the absolute nature order of creation and of extinction, with his gesture. His uniform screen of red and of ink-stick shows that the unity hourly born and died is “me”.

대진대학교 미술학부 서양화전공 및 홍익대학교 미술대학원을 졸업했다. △개인전 13회=공평아트 홀, 국립수목원 특별 초대전, 일본 오사카 천 갤러리(일본 오사카),취옹 예술관, 서호갤러리, 신 갤러리 초대전(뉴욕, 미국),Texas Contemporary(텍사스, 미국),Art Hamptons(뉴욕, 미국) 등에서 가졌다. △1990~2004년 대한민국미술대전 서예부분 10회 입선했다. △대한민국미술대전 서양화비구상부문에 2회 입선했고 2010년도는 우수상을 수상했다. △대한민국 사찰 및 일본사찰 현판 글씨 50여 곳을 제작했다.
