I wanted to express the butterfly, who became my hope like a ray of light, as the light that is the source of life. The moment I found out that the etymology of butterfly is 'flying light' was ‘blissful.’
Using LEDs(light emitting diode), a state-of-the-art light created by humans, a butterfly is embodied in a three-dimensional space, and a picture made with light is reduced back to color. If light is an essence, color is a phenomenon. This new way of expression is a search for ways to breathe life into my work.
나에게 한 줄기 빛처럼 희망이 되어준 나비를 생명의 근원인 빛으로 표현하고 싶었다. 나비의 어원이 ‘날으는 빛’ 이라는 것을 알게 된 그 순간은 ‘희열’이었다. 인간이 만들어낸 최첨단의 빛이라는 LED(발광다이오드)를 이용해서 3차원의 공간에 나비를 형상화 하고 빛으로 만든 그림을 다시 색으로 환원하였다.
빛이 본질이라면 색은 현상이다. 이러한 새로운 표현 방식은 나의 작품에 생명력을 불어 넣을 방법에 대한 모색이다.<글=나비작가 김현정, Flying Light-Light, color and vitality(빛과 색 그리고 생명력)
