〔Interview〕Western painter Donah Lee|Hope to convey the noble mind through reinterpretation of folk painting (서양화가 이돈아, 李暾雅)

Despite of the time, the brightened atelier located at Bangbae-dong, Seocho-gu, Seoul, presented her passion for art. Even though her works of Lotus used similar colors, it did not look weak. Refined lyrics and contemplation portray the energy of the work.

 

The painter said “Folk painting was notified as hope and happiness, portraying the language and humor of ordinary people during the Chosun dynasty. Folk painting contained philosophy of the ideal world through contemplation of mankind and the universe. I want to convey the high-class of folk painting as the most elegant and noble mind in the digital world today. Although I borrow elements from folk painting, my works aim for sympathy of harmony between birds, flowers, and humans.”

 

She expresses matiere through diverse material, western paints, and even by adding perspective. She said “I tried to inject ‘me’ in the paining by showing the present through communion gained from folk painting.”

 

Westen painter Donah Lee graduated from Ewha Womans University and majored in art education at Chung-ang Graduate School of Education. She studied in courses at both SVA and NYU and held 5 private exhibitions in Seoul and New York. She participated in several domestic/international art festivals including Art Palm Beach and LA Art Show of the US, Singapore affordable art fair, Seoul Open Art Fair, and Hwarang Art festival.
